Kāinga Hou

Kāinga Hou houses knowledge and knowledge systems of other iwi. The three key goals are to:

  • Support Tūwharetoa learner success in two worlds
  • Create and support Tūwharetoa educational and training opportunities for the prosperity of our people
  • To influence learning centres within our rohe, ensuring quality education to our whānau

Current projects include:

  • Placing authentic Tūwharetoa in schools throughout our rohe via the Tūwharetoa Cultural Knowledge project
  • Tūwharetoa Learning Change Network - working across our kāhui kura Māori in Taumarunui, Tūrangi and Taupō with a focus on Pūtaiao Tūwharetoa
  • Wepua Tūwharetoa - supporting Māori learners and their whānau in our rohe to lift their educational achievement
  • Working with Communities of Learning in Taupō and developing a Tūwharetoa Community of Learning amongst kura Māori in our rohe
  • Strengthening early learning by working with early learning centres (Māori and English medium) to place Tūwharetoa knowledge (provided by hapū) in their centres, supporting kaiako/kaiāwhina and whānau to do so
