Kāinga Tupu

Kāinga Tupu houses Tūwharetoa knowledge. The three goals are to:

  • Retain and grown a number of proficient speakers of Te Reo o Tūwharetoa
  • Preserve, research, create and disseminate Tūwharetoa knowledge, kawa and tikanga
  • Make accessible repositories of knowledge such as kōrero tawhito and whakaapa, to reconnect our people to their ūkaipō

Current projects include:

  • Kohinga mātauranga o te iwi
  • Wāhi tapu projects
  • Working with Te Reo providers to develop a programme to lift the level of Te Reo o Tūwharetoa proficiency for whānau
  • Facility for digital archiving currently being developed
  • Development of Te Marautanga o Tūwharetoa
